This is a guest post by Alana and Haille.

Today 2KM and 2KJ skyped with Mrs Watson’s class in Sointula, Canada.

It was 9 o’clock (in the morning) when 2KM and 2KJ were skyping and it was 2 o’clock (in the afternoon) when they were skyping.

Alana, Haille, Jordi and Mia all had a special job each. Alana and Haille were the typers. Jordi and Mia were the photographers.

Mrs Watsons class asked 2KM and 2KJ lots of questions and we asked them questions too.

Here is a screen shot of Mrs Watson’s 2/3 class blog. Also here  is the link to their blog because they have done a post too.Click here.

You can see some of the questions and answers that we typed in Word here Skyping Mrs Watson’s Class

I hope you like our typing and photos.

Our Friends in California

2KM and 2KJ love blogging and one of our favourite things about having a class blog is connecting with other student bloggers from all around the world!

Mrs Yollis and her third grade class in Los Angeles, California (USA), are one of our closest blogging buddies. We love to check out Mrs Yollis’ blog, leave her comments and have commenting conversations. We have learnt a lot about life in America from Mrs Yollis and her students.

Just to show how far away we live from Mrs Yollis, look at the map below. (Click on the picture to enlarge it).

A few weeks ago Jarrod sent a special package over to Mrs Yollis’ class. Check it out here. Read about what happened when Mrs Yollis’ class tasted vegemite!

We got such a surprise yesterday when we received a big parcel, all the way from Mrs Yollis’ class in California!

Our special package contained a lovely card, American flags for all students, four packets of “Jelly Belly” jelly beans, delicious lolly pops for everyone and a wonderful Californian book, titled “Golden Numbers”. We are so lucky!

We read the special book straight away!

We enjoyed the jelly beans. Yum!

Hello from Australia!

A big thank you to Mrs Yollis and her fabulous third grade students. You truly are such special friends!

Do you have any friends or family members who live in another country?

What have you learnt from Mrs Yollis and her students about America?

What is your favourite treat to eat?

Our World, Our Stories

In 2KM and 2KJ, we love to connect and learn with our friends around the world.

Today we are excited to start a new global project called Our World, Our Stories.

We have a blog where all the blogging buddies will meet up and learn together for the next seven weeks.

Our World Our Stories Blog

Classes involved

The students are all from junior primary classes and are from three different continents and six different countries.

2KM and 2KJ from Victoria, Australia

B4 from New Zealand

Mrs Yollis’ third grade class from California, USA

Mr Salsich’s third grade class from Connecticut, USA

Mrs Watson’s 2/3 class from Canada

Andy Sefa Boachie and his students from Ghana

Miss Usher’s standard 3 class from Punta Gorda, Belize

A map showing participating classes

View Our World, Our Stories in a larger map

How will it work?

A different class will “lead” a topic on the blog each week. The lead class will publish posts and reply to comments.

Topics will be based on students’ interests such as school games, hobbies, food, local environment etc.

The other classes will read the posts, possibly publish their own posts, and leave blog comments.

The students will be able learn a lot from getting to know how the other classes live their lives.

We plan to have a special celebration in December to finish our project!

If you want to keep up to date with how the fun and learning unfolds, there is a “subscribe via email” box on the right hand side of the Our World, Our Stories blog.

We encourage all members of the 2KM and 2KJ community to get involved!

What do you think about Our World, Our Stories?

What do you think we’ll get out of doing of this project?

Skyping Mr Avery

Today, 2KM and 2KJ were lucky enough to skype with their blogging buddy, Mr Avery!

Mr Avery teaches 4th grade in Massachusetts, USA. He has a wonderful blog and 2KM and 2KJ has enjoyed getting to know Mr Avery’s class this year.

Unfortunately 2KM and 2KJ can’t skype with Mr Avery’s class because when we start school at 9am it already 7pm in Massachusetts! Fortunately, Mr Avery was nice enough to give up 30 minutes of his evening to skype with us!

When we called Mr Avery, it was 10am Tuesday in Leopold and 8pm Monday in Massachusetts. Mr Avery was just preparing for his last day of the school year as it is nearly time for the summer holidays in the northern hemisphere.

Lots of students in 2KM and 2KJ prepared excellent questions for Mr Avery. They tried to think of open questions rather than closed questions with a yes/no answer.

Here are some of the things we found out about Mr Avery:

  • He will be teaching maths and science in 6th grade next year.
  • Mr Avery enjoys playing golf, drawing, reading and running.
  • He has not been outside of the USA, except for Canada, but he has been to lots of different states in the USA.
  • Mr Avery can speak a little Spanish.
  • He loves to teach maths and make movies about maths with his students.
  • Mr Avery’s favourite book is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
  • He would love to come to Australia one day!

Skyping with Mrs Yollis’ Class

Today 2KM and 2KJ skyped with Mrs Yollis and her third grade students in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles is in California, which is a state in the United States of America. We live in Leopold, a town in the state of Victoria, Australia. (Click on the picture to enlarge it.)

So far, the quad blogging buddies have enjoyed getting to know Mrs Yollis’ class and Mr Salsich’s class.

This week, they’re focussing on Mrs McKenzie’s class, B4, in Reefton, New Zealand.

B4 are grade two and three students in a rural area on the south island of New Zealand.

Their blog is called Open the Door to B4.

2KM and 2KJ are enjoying collaborating on a Flat Stanley project with B4 and their friends B3.

B4 are hoping to get their comments up to a total of 900 this week. Can you help them?

Instead of leaving a comment on this post, why not head over to Open the Door to B4 and leave a comment for them!

They would love to hear from you.

Remember to mention where you’re from!

The Postcard Project

2KJ and 2KM are involved in a special Postcard Project!

Our friend, Mrs Leakey, a teacher in New Zealand, started this project and you can read all about it here on her class blog, Pirates of Room 4. Lots of different classes from all around the world have signed up!

This is what is involved in the project:

Sign up online to be a part of the Postcard Project.

– Find some postcards that represents something about the town or country you live in.

– Write on the back of the postcards to share something about your town or city.

– Choose which classes you wish to send the postcard to and address the postcards.

– Send the postcards.

– You will then hopefully get some postcards back!

We have already received a postcard from Mrs McKenzie and B4 in New Zealand!

Today some 2KJ and 2KM students were specially selected to write on some postcards to send to our global blogging buddies.

Here they are, hard at work! (Remember to click on the picture below to make it bigger.)
