The 2KM and 2KJ students who are not participating in the swimming program are enjoying learning some new skills. Last week, they learnt how to use Glogster and Tagxedo. This week, they are creating stories with Storybird.
Storybirds are short online stories that are inspired by art. To make a Storybird, you need to go to http://storybird.com and sign up. Miss Jordan and Mrs Morris signed up their students through their teacher account.
There are all different sorts of artwork that you can choose to illustrate your Storybird. The students chose their artwork first to help them think of story ideas.
Here are some of the stories…
Later in the year we might make some collaborative Storybirds like B4 in New Zealand did with their friends in Mrs Watson’s grade in Canada. You can read about the fun they had here.

I love all the storybirds they are very nice stories.
No I have not made a storybird before but I would love to.
I am not quit sure what story I would write.
But I would write one that someone does not know what a book is.
Now I remember when I was in Grade 2 2KM and 2KJ we read this book. I loved that book.

I really enjoyed all of your Storybirds! They were very creative and you all did a fantastic job matching the stories to the illustrations.
I plan on using Storybird with my new class when we go back to school in September. We might use them to make maths word problems to solve. I like all the different styles of pictures you can choose from to create a story.

I loved reading your Storybirds. There are so many lovely art works to choose from on the Storybird site, so you did well to choose great pictures to fit your stories.
B4 certainly did have a lot of fun when we collaborated with Mrs Watson’s class! We’re planning on writing our own stories this term too.

We loved reading your stories. They made us laugh out loud. We thought some of your character names were very funny, like Piggy Tale.
Lucy said she would be mad too if someone tried to eat her head!
We would like to see some more stories with the same characters.
We might try writing a book using storybirds too.

We liked the storybird “My friends” the best. We thought it was cute. We liked how Kayla explained what each of the characters was like.
It would be handy to have some friends like the ones she created. We could do with a friend who gives us trees.
We are trying to create our own storybirds. When they are finished we will put them on our blog.
