In 2KM and 2KJ we are always trying to improve our handwriting and typing skills. It is important to have good handwriting and be able to type well on a computer.
We do lots of different types of writing activities in our class and we always try to do our neatest writing. Once a week we do a special handwriting lesson. We focus on a different letter each week and we need to remember the size, shape, direction and formation of the letters. We use Victorian Modern Cursive handwriting. Here is a sample of what it looks like:
Today we focussed on the letter Dd . We wrote the uppercase (capital) and lowercase letter Dd and we made up some interesting sentences with lots of “Dd” words.

Ebony’s Handwriting
We don’t always have to use paper and pen to write. We use computers to type blog comments, both at home and at school. There are some fun typing games you can play on the computer to improve your skills. Try out the games below!

Dear 2KM & 2KJ,
Terrific blog post. The students in 4WS are currently typing Personal Narrative stories using Microsoft Word. This is the first time that any of them have ever typed a story on the computer in school. It is a story that they want to publish to the blog using Youblisher.
The students are finding out that typing on the computer is not as easy as it seems. At our school, we do not teach typing, but the students of 4WS have been able to practice using our Netbooks and commenting on the blog(s).Thanks for the great websites. We will have to try them out in class and let you know how we made out with them.

Dear Mrs Morris, Miss Jordan and students,
What wonderful work your are all doing when it comes to handwriting/typing skills. I am pretty sure you are all just great at both tasks.
However I do have a few tips when it comes to hand writing and here they are.
1. Always hold your pencil in a comfortable position.
2. New try to rush when writing.
3. Last of all practice, practice as much as you can when it comes to hand writing or typing and you will find in time you will improve.
I do a lot of handwriting and typing so I seem to have the best of both worlds.
Keep up the great work everyone.
From AA.
@ AA,

Good Evening 2KM and 2KJ,
I love your new post.
I can write really neat, however I will admit that I can get a little messy sometimes when I rush. So it is important to not rush your writing.
When I am typing Paris needs to remind me to make my i’s into a capital I.
Talk to you soon.

Good morning to you all.. my name is Kim and i am Anthony’s uncles girlfriend.
I love to write, but most of all i love to write poems.
With my job these days i spend most of my time on the computer typing.
The best way to improve your writing and typing skills is to keep up the practice…
“Practice makes perfect”
Happy writing and typing x
To 2KM and 2KJ,
We loved reading all about your handwriting and your typing. We were looking at our blog and reading our comments and decided to have a look at some of the comments on your blog.
When we do writing we try really hard to put our letters on the lines and to do neat writing. We have been learning about upper and lower case letters.
We think that ‘y’ is a very tricky letter to write.
Thanks again for your great post about your writing.

Dear Mr H,
Thanks a lot for your quality comment.
I think the lower case ‘z’ is a little bit triky for me to keep on the lines. ☻
Happy Blogging,
Haille (2KJ)
Dear Haille,
You are a good commenter have you played any of the games on this post?
Love
Keira.
Hi Haille,
Thank you for your reply. I agree that the lower case ‘z’ is difficult to sit on the lines correctly. I like to tell my kids that z is like a bird sitting on a wire with its tail hanging down. Hope this tip helps you.
Happy Blogging,

Hi 2KM & 2 KJ,
Well I just had a look at your blog and you look like you are doing a great job.

Ava work was very neat.
I have to write a lot for school, I do go on the computer but I’m bit slow still. At school we’re learning to flicks and join up writting.

@ Eloise,
It’s good that you are getting a lot of practice writing as it’s something you’ll do a lot as you get older.
Just think soon you’ll be ready to get your pen licence, how exciting.
Keep up the good writing,
Melane (Jarr☀d’s Mum)
Hi My name is Linda. I have been typing all my life. If I have to send a letter or note to someone I prefer to type it instead of writing. It is also neater. Typing is much easier to read. If you have to write to someone sometimes the reader may not always be able to understand your handwriting and there are times when you make errors while writing that you may have to erase or start all over again. The best way to improve in your typing is to practice typing the alphabet. Also if you prefer to use handwriting improve your writing by using calligraphy. You will learn to shape your letters beautifully.
Hi 2 km & 2 kj,
I love writing letter to friends and I also live writing stories as l have a really good imagination.

Blog to you soon,

G’day Bradley
I have never used a computer before so have asked your mum Sara to type this for me!
You have wonderful handwritting. I love it when you make me cards because your writing is so clear. Now you can type and write, that is very clever.
Lots of love
Poppy (Bradleys Poppy)
Hi 2KJ and 2KM,
I much prefer handwriting to typing! Although I do enjoy typing on the blog to leave you all messages, I’ve been told I have very neat handwriting as that was something I worked very hard on when I was at school (a long time ago now!).
Do you know what I really love? When you get a handwritten letter in the mail! I write to my Aunt Betty who lives in England and send her photos of Charlotte and Oliver growing up which she loves to see.
Has anyone received a handwritten letter lately? I got one and a package last week from my aunt last week, I was very excited!
Best wishes,
Martine
Hi 2KJ & 2KM,
I think it is an excellent idea to practice all forms of writing as often as you can. At the place I work at lot of our work is done via the computer so being able to type is very important.
We also do a lot of hand written notes as well, so being able to write neatly so it can be read by others makes all our jobs much easier.
Congratulations girls your handwriting posted above is very neat, you should be very proud of you work.
Keep up the great work 2KJ & 2KM.
Kind regards
Scott (Mitchell’s Dad)
Dear 2KM & 2KJ,
Wow what a great post. I hope that all your handwriting is improving each day.
My tip on typing and handwriting is just keep practicing!! You will get better each day. I mostly type for my job. I used to be a really slow typer and now that I have practiced a lot I can type faster! One day you will get so good that you won’t even have to look at the keyboard!!! WOAAHH!!
Good luck kids.
From Jess. ♥
Hallo I am Raquel from a school in burwood, I am in year 4. I have got some tips for your typing.
1. Type often so that you know where letters are when you type.
2. Go on a typing course and practice a lot what they ask you to practice.
3. Try blind typing, after you’ve done step 1 very often try to do this with a paper on your keyboard so that you can’t see the letters and then try writing something!
Please try and use these tips and see if it helps!
Hi,
Making sure you have good handwriting is a hugely important skill. I know that mine has gone downhill with years of typing things instead of writing them. One statisitics exam I did, the Lecturer called me in to read what I had written because he couldn’t understand it. This may seem like a non-event, but had he failed me in that unit, I would have had to repeat it, costing me four months of time and nearly $3,000 in Uni fees. I therefore need to be very carefull about the way I write when other people need to read it.
Keep up the great work,
Brendan
Liam’s dad and I were only discussing a couple of weeks ago how important it is to be able to touch type (type without looking at the keys). With lots of practice I’m sure all in 2KM and 2KJ will be great at typing.
From
Manda
Hi,
I must tell you that if your handwriting goes down then you must keep writing at home, its important that your handwriting skills are good.
This is so important because you do lots of writing at school and at home and people need to be able to see what you are writing. Also if you later get older then you need to write lots and lots of things like letters or for work, You also do lots of writing at the secondary school and at the universities and much more.
Keep writing and typing everyone!
P.s Don’t lose your typing either!
Dear 2KM and 2KJ,
It’s a bit hard for me to not smudge my work because I am a left hander. Yesterday I had to be very careful when I was writing on a birthday card.
Best wishes,
Hannah
Hello Hannah – this is Christine. So good to know that you are learning all about handwriting because it is an important way of communicating with people. These days many people don’t write letters because they use emails etc.
It is still fun to get a letter in the mail that someone has written themseleves.
When I was a little girl I learnt to write on a slate with chalk. Then later I had to practice writing with a pen with a nib and we all had ink wells. The ink was a bit messy and you had to practice so that you didn’t blot the writing. We also had to use blotting paper that stopped the ink from smudging. We later were allowed to use biros.
I am now learning calligraphy which the word used for lots of different kinds of writing that they used hundreds of years ago.
Bye for now – keep on practising your writing Hannah.
Warmest regards,
Christine
Hi people,
I think learning to write clearly and type on a keyboard are both just as important these days. even though the keyboard is convenient and the text is always readable there will be many times when good handwriting is valuable. Lets face it the computer might crash, the power might go out or you may be in a country with very little technology. As nanny says, one of the best things to receive in the mail is a handwritten letter or postcard, it’s just more personal. Keep on wrightin folks! woops!
Cheers Matt
