On Wednesday 23rd March, 2KM and 2KJ held a Family Blogging Afternoon.
Last week, all students made an invitation to give to a special person in their family.
We had mums, dads, nannas, pas, aunties and other family members come along.
We launched our Family Blogging Afternoon by skyping Mrs Yollis!
Mrs Yollis told everyone about some of the benefits of educational blogging in regards to literacy, community building, geography and internet safety. Thank you, Mrs Yollis! It was great to hear from you!
All the students showed their special person our poster about writing quality comments.
The students then taught their special person how to find their way around our blog and how to leave a quality comment. All the special people left a comment on this post. Check out their wonderful comments!

Hi Miss Jordan and Mrs Morris,
Thanks again for the invite to the blogging afternoon, I had a wonderful time with all the other families! Charlotte was an excellent teacher and her tip sheet on how to blog was very helpful.
What I like about blogging is how you can interact with people from not only in your same class, but people from all over the world! Pretty amazing!
What can I learn from blogging? I think computer skills, reading and writing, how to interact with people safely on the internet are all great tools in life.
I’m pretty new to blogging, so I think I’m still looking for tips about it!
Warm wishes,
Martine
Hello again!
I also wanted to mention that another thing I like about blogging is that it something Charlotte can share not only with me and her dad, but the rest of her family too, so they can see what she is up to at school. It really includes us as a family in her schooling and we are all for that!
So much work goes into making this a positive, wonderful experience for the children and you should both be congratulated!
Martine
@ Martine,
Thanks so much for your fabulous comments! Mrs Morris and I love blogging with our students and we are so glad we have parents like you, who like to get involved too!
I love how blogging helps our students learn about the world. It is so important to have a good understanding of the world around us, and blogging makes this possible!
One tip I always give new bloggers is to reply to comments, and you always do that which is great!
Adding new information to a post, asking interesting questions and looking at a variety of blogs are also good tips. You do all of those things too!
You are a blogging star Martine, thanks for your support!
Best wishes,
Miss Jordan
@ Martine,
We love hearing from you you myte get your own blog.
It is great you had a good time at the blogging afternoon.
Love
Keira.
Dear Mrs. Morris and Miss Jordan,
What a tremendous success! It was exciting for me to be a part of your evening, and I thank you for the invitation! Encouraging family involvement is so important and you are to be commended for your efforts to include everyone!
I got a few comments from some new bloggers, so the community of learners continues to grow!
I’m curious, what was the biggest challenge for the new bloggers?
Your friend,
Mrs. Y♥llis
@ Mrs Yollis,
When I asked the students today what their favourite part of our Family Blogging Afternoon was, many of them said it was skyping with you! You’re a bit of an icon here in 2KM and 2KJ!
I would be keen to know what new bloggers find challenging too. If it was to have a guess, perhaps one challenge is learning how to actually navigate a blog. Learning exactly how to leave a comment, how to get back to the home page, following links, what the widgets do, finding specific posts etc. That is only a guess though!
Thanks again for joining us yesterday!
Your pal down under,
Miss Jordan
Dear Mrs Morris and Miss Jordan,
Am, so glad to read your post about Family Blogging Afternoon. From watching your wonderful slide show it was a huge success.
How awesome also having Mrs Yollis as well to greet and get the blogging train going amongst family members.
I feel your blog is going to get so many more bloggers as now they can see just how wonderful blogging really is. However the best thing about blogging is you can learn together with your child and make long lasting friendships. I really do feel that is the power of blogging.
Keep up the great work!
From AA.
@ AA,
Thanks so much for your comment! You would have loved the Family Blogging Afternoon!
It was wonderful to see the children sharing their blogging knowledge with their special visitors. The chatter, conversations and explanations the children were providing was so great to see and hear! I think the family members learnt a lot about blogging from Mrs Yollis and the terrific students.
Warm wishes,
Miss Jordan
Hi Miss Jordan, Mrs Morris and classes,
Nice post! I loved the slideshow.
It would’ve been fun having parents come to school to write comments.
Blogging is great because you get to meet and learn about all different people.
Here are some tips for commenting:
You need to get someone to check your comment before you submit.
Make sure you have an opening and a closing which means like ‘Dear Miss Jordan’ ‘From Mrs Morris’.
From Skye
@ Sky,
Thank you for your comment.
That is rite you do need opening and a closing and someone to check your comment.
Warmly,
Haille.***
@ Haille,
Thank you for replying!
I learnt that last year with Miss Jordan and Mrs Morris.
Are you in Miss Jordan or Mrs Morris’s grade? I was in Miss Jordan’s last year.
Skye ♥
@ Miss Jordan, Mrs Morris & class,
My favourite two parts of the blogging afternoon was going on skyping with mrs Yollis and leaving a comment with my mum and Kayla.
The blogging afternoon was so fun!
Warmly,
Haille.***
@ Haille,
Thanks for your comment, good job. I’m glad you had fun.
What did you get to teach your Mum about blogging?
Sincerely,
Jarr☀d
Dear jarrod

Dear 2km and 2kj,
I love blogging because you can talk to people from different states , or different countries. I also love blogging because i love telling them about how i am doing in volleyball and basketball. Do you like blogging? If you don’t its OK but i love it so much. Comment back please.
your Techie buddies,
Maria
from techie kids
@ Maria,
I also play basket ball like you!
Yes I do like blogging a lot!
Warmly,
Haille.***
Dear 2KM and 2KJ,
I didn’t get to see the video, but it sure looks like fun. I like when I get to hear about people’s stories, and I also like when I get to share my stories. I can learn facts about different topics and learn about different people. My tips for new bloggers is that you don’t give out information because people can find you. Keep up the great work.
Your blog buddie,
Sydney
Techie Kids
Dear 2KM and 2KJ,
If there was a knew blogging person these are some tips i would give them. I would say that writing a comment is like writing a letter to some one. you always start of with something that says “Dear 2KJ”, or some thing like that. And then always end with a closing like”Your friend, or Sincerely” there is some much more that i cant even name them all. I hope you use my tips.
Sincerly,
Maria
Techie Kids
It sounds like it was so much fun, l wish l was able to be there.
Marcie
@ Marcie,
Thank you for your comment. We always enjoy hearing from parents.
Hopefully we have another Family Bloggin Afternoon so you can join us.
Best wishes,
Mrs M☀rris
Dear 2KM and 2KJ,
I liked your video clip. At school I like doing reading groups.
From Paris.
@ Paris,
I also like reading groups.

Dear 2KM and 2KJ,
What a neat idea to have a family blogging afternoon! It looks like everyone had a lot of fun and isn’t that what blogging is all about? We also have Skype set up in our classroom and maybe we could Skype with you?
We are going to have a special family night that we are going to post on our blog when we release our ladybugs in our ladybug garden that we have created. We are going to work with our third grade blogging buddies to video the release with our families watching so we can post it on our blog. Maybe when it is posted, you all would like to watch what we did?
Keep up the great work! We love learning from your blog!
Hugs,
Miss Powers and The Friendly Frogs
San Antonio, Texas
@ Miss Powers,
Thank you very much for your comment.
Your special family night sounds great. I will check it out!
Unfortunately we won’t be able to skype as our time zones don’t match up. You will be going to bed when we are going to school!
We are lucky to have many classes around the world to collaborate with however our friends in Mr Shiell’s class are just getting starting with blogging and collaboration. I know Mr Shiell and his grade two students would love to hear from you!
Best wishes,
Mrs M☀rris
Hi 2km and 2kj,
I like your blog
from Jasmine
Hi 2KM and 2KJ,
I like your flat people that you made. They are really interesting. Your class room looks great I really like it.
From HANNAH
Dear Mrs Morris,
I like Leo as our class mascot! He is really cute!
In Grade 1 we didn’t have an IWB but I did in Prep. We didn’t have a mascot either.
From Bradley
@ Bradley,
Thank you for your comment. I hope you had a nice day today? Who was your teacher with Mrs Gray?
I love our IWB and we’re so lucky to have two. Of course, I love Leo as well!
Best wishes,
Mrs M☀rris
Dar 2KM and 2KJ,
We got your postcard yesterday! Thank you! The koala on the postcard is cute! What is an Indonesian garden? We have never heard of that before. We have a regular flower garden at our school.
We are in first grade and love the author Mo Willems! Do you know him? Do you have a favorite author?
From,
Mrs. Daly’s class with Mrs. Hembree
@ Mrs Hembree,
Lovely to hear from you! We’re so glad you received our postcard, this project is a lot of fun.
We learn the Indonesian language at our school so part of our courtyard has an Indonesian garden. It features Indonesian artwork, has bamboo plants, animal statues etc. It is a popular place during recess and lunch time for our students.
We do know of Mo Willems, we like the book Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus. It’s great! We like the Flat Stanley books, written by Jeff Brown (a very long time ago!). Harry Potter, Rainbow Fairy, Zac Power and Roald Dahl books are also popular.
Best wishes,
Miss Jordan
Dear Meg,
We have just received a lovely greeting all the way from Australia! Thank you for sending the Techie Kids a postcard.
It took 7 days to make it over to Michigan, U.S.A. I am very interested in your school’s Indonesian Garden. What kinds of plants are growing there? I am looking forward to my tulips peeking out of the ground soon. It will be a sure sign that spring is coming!
Your buddy,
Mrs. Moore
@ Mrs Moore,
Thank you for letting us know our postcard arrived safe and sound. It didn’t take long to arrive did it! Miss Jordan and I went to the post office at lunchtime last Friday and you got it this Friday! I will let Meg know.
Hmm, I don’t know much about gardening but there are all sorts of plants growing in the Indonesian garden including bamboo. I might have to ask someone for more information about that!
Lucky you, coming into spring. Our weather is getting cooler as we approach winter here!
Best wishes,
Mrs M☀rris
Hi Mrs Morris,
I just wanted to let you know that Jermemy one of Andrews friends in your grade has been leaving comments on our blog. Jeremy wanted me to pass on the message. Maybe you could look at our blog and look at his comments.
Thanks,
Mrs Milton
@ Mrs Milton,
Nice to hear from you and thank you for letting us know about Jeremy’s comments, maybe he is Andrew’s friend from his old school? I will have to ask him!
Best wishes,
Mrs M☀rris
Hi 2KM and 2KJ,
Your blogging afternoon sounds fantastic. I see you had thre terrific Grade 3 helpers. BB, Ash and Rhi help me with blogging all the time. They were very well- trained last year by your clever teachers. What a great idea to introduce your families and friends to blogging.
I also read your post about how school has changed. When I was in Grade 3 my teacher used to strap the boys if they were naughty. I can’t imagine hitting my lovely Grade 3 boys! I’m glad that has changed. We also had to stay in our seats all the time. We didn’t get to move around the room.
School is much more fun now.
From Mrs de Vries (3DD)
@ Mrs de Vries and 3DD,
Thank you for your comment. BB, Ash and Rhi were terrific helpers as they are every Wednesday afternoon. Thank you for letting them come along!
I started school in Queensland in 1987 and I can’t believe that they still had the cane then! If students were naughty they had to go to the principals office to get hit with the cane! Luckily you and I never got the strap or the cane. I’m glad that isn’t around anymore.
I agree, school is much more fun now!
Best wishes,
Mrs M☀rris
@ Mrs de Vries,
I just looked up when corporal punishment like the cane ended in QLD schools. It said…
“In 1992 a decision was made to phase out corporal punishment. At the beginning of the 1995 school year, corporal punishment in Queensland state schools was abolished.”
I cannot believe that! 1995 doesn’t seem like all that long ago!
Dear 2KM and 2KJ,
I have been a bit short of time recently and so haven’t checked into your blog for a while but I’m so glad I decided to take a break from my work to have a look today. The family blogging afternoon looked like so much fun and I thought it a very clever way of getting more families involved.
I have been wondering how I was going to get the families involved in our class blog and now I know.
Thank you once again for sharing your great ideas.
Miss. Leakey
@ Miss Leakey,
Thank you so much for your comment.
I know what it is like not being able to check out everyone’s blogs all the time!
I hope you have a Family Blogging Afternoon sometime too. Be sure to let us know if you do!
Best wishes,
Mrs M☀rris
@ 2KM and 2KJ,
It looked like great fun.
I like making conversations with people, like the time when I made conversations with Mrs Yollis and Mrs McKenzie.
From blogging I have learnt how to do the HTML codes.
For new bloggers they should look on to learn how to blog and how to leave a comment.
Sincerely,
Jarr☀d
@ Jarr☀d,
Thanks for your comment. I think it is great that you have had conversations with Mrs Yollis and Mrs McKenzie!
The HTML codes are fun and you have done a good job learning them.
Good advice for new bloggers.
I will see you tomorrow,
Best wishes,
Mrs M☀rris
@ 2KM and 2KJ,
I think the family blogging afternoon was great:lol:
especially when we had so many family members come. I loved it that my dad came. He had to leave work early. Now he can blog too! I wish our family members could come everyday.
Until next time,
Mia.
@ Mia,
Thanks for your comment. I’m glad you enjoyed the Family Blogging Afternoon. It was great to meet your dad. How nice of him to leave work early! I hope he had fun.
Best wishes,
